Château Médiéval de Montby
Montby Castle is a former fortress and seigneurial residence built in the 2009th century by the eponymous family, on the site of an XNUMXth century construction, on the Montby plateau. Since December XNUMX, it has been listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments.
The association "Les amis de Montby", contributing to the preservation, restoration, entertainment and promotion of the Château, invites you to visit this medieval château currently being restored, by appointment.
The oldest walls of the castle date from the Middle Ages and are one meter eighty wide. The inhabitants of the surrounding area participated in the construction of this fortified house with a large square tower where, in times of invasion, they took refuge with their livestock.
The castle was taken, pillaged and burned several times and the inhabitants, it is said, took refuge in the nearby caves. In 1795, it was put up for sale as national property, then became a farm house. The war of 1870 did not spare it, since one of the 4 wings, that of the Levant, was burned and never rebuilt. Despite everything, Montby preserves an inalienable treasure: a magnificent view of the Doubs valley, the Lomont mountain range...
Also, Montby Castle offers a wedding planning service.
