Sources d’Arcier

Source
Short family walk of around 30 minutes to discover 3 springs between Baume-les-Dames and Besançon.

Caution: the trail can be slippery. Wear good shoes. Also, the site is private: please stay on the trail.
For your first steps, find your way around the red and white markings. Follow the path. After 200 meters, you will already discover a first source: the Bergeret source.

Continue for another 600 meters: you will arrive at the other 2 sources. The first, the lower source, was captured in Antiquity to supply the city of Besançon with water via an aqueduct (the developments that we see today date from the XNUMXth century powder magazine below). The second, very aesthetic, also called the upper source, has been supplying Besançon with water since the XNUMXth century.

Several activities attracted by the water available on site were established on this site: forge, paper mill, powder magazine and even a fish farm! Today we can still see the ponds of the fish farm and a mill transformed into a chapel near the road.

For the more curious, remains of the Roman aqueduct are still visible at the side of the road between Arcier and Canaie.
